How to Pick the Best Custom Corn Hole Boards

May 5, 2023

Graduation parties, weddings, backyard barbeques - no outdoor party is complete without a game of cornhole. Fun to use and easy to learn, cornhole is a favorite of those old and young. A custom cornhole board is the perfect addition to any event. From classic woodgrain designs to personalized monograms, company logos, or a sports mascot, we can create a one-of-a-kind cornhole board for you. Designing and shopping for custom cornhole boards is a fun process, but be sure to ask yourself these four questions before you make any purchases:

What Size Board Do I Want?

Deciding what you want from your cornhole board is the first thing you should consider before purchasing custom cornhole boards. Some people are earnest about their cornhole. However, if you plan to use your panels for serious play, or tournaments, you’ll want regulation-sized boards. Regulation-size cornhole boards should be 4 feet long and 2 feet wide. As for height, the front of the board should be between 3 inches and 4 inches tall, while the back should be 12 inches tall. The playing surface should be at least 1/2” thick with the cross-section backing. Without the cross-section backing; it needs to have a minimum thickness of 3/4”. The board should be 6” in diameter and located at the center of the board,9” from the top.

For those of us who want to play cornhole more casually, say for tailgating or backyard fun; smaller boards may be appropriate. The tailgate-size boards are smaller than regulation boards and are more portable. They can be easily packed up into your car or stowed away in your garage for the next party. Tailgate-sized boards are 3 feet long and 2 feet wide.

Some cornhole enthusiasts purchase special carrying for their boards, making moving them from place to place easier. At Weaverland Valley Boards, we build a carrying handle directly onto the board, making them portable. So whether you are going to the beach, a party, or a family reunion, you can easily carry your board without any other needed equipment.

Is It Sturdy?

A quality board will be well built, provide a smooth landing surface, and last a long time. You want to make sure you buy your cornhole board from a reputable manufacturer that knows what they are doing; otherwise, you risk being stuck with a flimsy board that will collapse or splinter. At Weaverland Valley Boards, we build our boards with real wood. They are highly sturdy and of top quality, so you can enjoy them for years to come.

Can It Withstand The Weather?

Most people play cornhole outside, and you want to make sure that your board can withstand the elements. Again, quality materials are of the utmost importance. Polyurethane is an effective way to protect your boards for years to come. Polyurethane can be oil-based or water-based. Oil-based polyurethane often leaves an amber glow on top of cornhole boards, whereas water-based polyurethane will leave a more clear coat. Oil-based polyurethane is going to offer superior durability compared to water-based.

What Design Do I Want?

Perhaps the most fun part of buying a custom cornhole board is the way you can make it your own. A custom cornhole board can be customized with photos, text, graphics, whatever you want! For example, some couples use cornhole boards at their wedding as a fun game for guests and to commemorate the event by monogramming them, adding a photo of the couple, or any other design they like. Business logos, school logos, or the name of a favorite sports team are common favorites that we are happy to add to any custom board.

Whether you are playing for fun or in a competitive setting, taking a few minutes to consider these four questions will help you to purchase the best cornhole boards for your specific needs. By considering factors such as size, material, and design, you can create a board that looks great and enhances your overall playing experience. So, whether you’re looking for a unique gift or just want to stand out at your next tailgate, custom cornhole boards are a great choice that will provide endless fun for years to come.
